Game terminology

deck builder
A game mechanism where players each start with a personal deck of cards and acquire new cards throughout the game to make their decks more powerful for their chosen strategy.
drafting
A game mechanic where players have a pool of items which is divided up between them in some fashion.
filler
Typically used to describe a short game that’s good to pull out between longer games on a game night.
flgs
Short-hand for “friendly local game store.”
player interaction
This term is usually used to describe how much a game requires or encourages players to affect each others’ actions. This could include taking cards or resources from another player, encouraging mechanisms for trading with other players, or playing actions that affect other players.
roll and write
A game mechanism where players roll dice and record the results in some fashion. Yahtzee is a classic game with a roll and write mechanic.
take-that
A game mechanism where players attack other players.
